Effect of Operating Parameters on Syngas Composition and Quality
Natural Gas Reforming Syngas Composition
Syngas Composition Natural gas reforming is one of the largest industrial methods for syngas production, especially for hydrogen manufacturing.
The main component of natural gas is methane.
Steam methane reforming reaction:
CH₄ + H₂O → CO + 3H₂
The resulting syngas has a high hydrogen concentration:
Typical composition:
- Hydrogen: 60–75%
- Carbon monoxide: 10–20%
- Carbon dioxide: 5–15%
- Methane: Small amounts
Natural gas reforming provides high hydrogen yields but produces carbon dioxide emissions unless combined with carbon capture systems.
